FAQ

These are some common questions we get asked. if you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us, we would be happy to answer them.

Do I need to be home during a renovation?

As long as we have access to the renovation site during the building phase, there is no need for you to be home. Some of our customers choose to take a mini vacation and come home when the renovation is complete.

How long will the job take?

The length of time will vary depending on the size and the extent of the renovations you have chosen to do. The planning and design phase for most projects tends to take from 2 – 4 weeks. An important point to note is that some materials needed for the project may take up to 4 – 6 weeks to arrive from the time of order. It is best to start the planning and design phase early to allow time for the materials to be on-site for the build.

On average the construction of a small bathroom without floor plan changes may take a week to 10 days to complete.

A kitchen renovation will take longer as there are more moving parts to coordinate. Once the material is in, average kitchen replacement projects take around 2 weeks on-site to complete. Kitchen projects that are larger and include wall removals, structural changes, and reconfiguration of the floor plan will of course take longer.

Can I live in my home during a renovation?

Many of our clients choose to stay in their home during a renovation. We offer creative ways for them to remain in their homes safely. Please see our blog post “Survival Guide to Living in Your Home While Renovating” for helpful ideas and tips.

Are you animal friendly?

We love animals, but due to their curious nature it is better for them to be restricted from the construction zone for their own safety. Pets are sometimes easily frightened by loud noises and can escape through an open door. Please have a secure place for your pets or consider leaving pets with friends or family during your remodel.

What are some of the most common reasons renovations get delayed?

The ”unknowns” such as black mold behind the drywall or a structural issue that requires an additional permit can delay your project. Special materials can sometimes get delayed or backordered, which can cause a project to get behind schedule. Some other delays which may slow down the renovation progress could include sick days for workmen, materials that are not readily available, or a change in plans that is initiated by the customer.

What do I do with my furniture?

Some of our clients prefer to store their furniture in a different room or in the garage or basement. We prefer if the furniture is already moved and the room cleaned out.

For a small fee, if you are not able to do so, our team will help move the furniture for you.

Will it be dusty?

Dust can be expected during a renovation. The Disciple Homes team will make every effort to ensure that your home is protected from dust and dirt. We use zippered closures to minimize dust travel from room to room. We put down drop sheets on the floors, tape down heavy plastic in doorways and over vents, and do daily housekeeping to minimize dust travel.

Will you do the cleanup?

Our team cleans up daily. After your renovation is complete, we will leave the project clean and move-in ready.
